New discoveries…

Hi everyone!

First of all, today is the first day of school for Albus Potter!! Can you imagine it?! We finally are #19yearslater.

Secondly, I went shopping today (I needed a birthday gift for my sister-in-law) and of course I couldn’t resist the temptation of entering a bookshop. I didn’t buy anything, mainly because I still have a ton of books I haven’t read yet. Besides, I have a preference for hardback covers. So I have a tendency of taking pictures of the books that interest me and then try to find and order them in a hardback edition. You can imagine that this leads to a lot of pictures of books in my phone!

I’m especially excited by the novel of Alyson Nöel, Blacklist. I read her previous series, The Immortals Series. I rather appreciated this series, although I know many were very critical of it. Most found the main character (Ever) to be shallow and predictable. Although I agree, I still found it an interesting story (and boy, how I wish I could manifest things as quickly as Ever, Damon, Ronan and all the other immortals ). Reading the back of the book, it seemed to be similar to Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziegesar and I do enjoy a good chick flick from time to time!

The second book that captured my attention was Ken Follet’s A Column of Fire. He’s the author of The Pillars of the Earth, which has also been adapted into a mini-series in 2010 with Matthew McFadyen (the o-so-dreamy Mr. Darcy in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice). I saw some episodes and it really captured my attention. As you can imagine, as a historian, I do enjoy a good historical novel…as long as they try to follow history as much as possible.

What do you guys think of these? And if you have already read one, what were your opinions on them?

Kerensa
