review 1: One of our challenges for the Scavenger Hunt (July) was to read a book from Loves Landscapes. I chose this one based on a review I had read. I am glad I did. The theme for this is wolf shapeshifters who fit the stereotypical gay male (Shane) and homophobic male (Dmitri). Dmitri realizes at the age of 18 that Shane is his mate, but takes about 8 years to come to terms with that. I loved when Dmitri told his best friend and former girlfriend Angela that he really didn't think he was gay 'cause he had watched gay porn and it did nothing for him - just Shane. Angela of course points out that wanting Shane and knowing Shane is his mate makes him gay, just not for everyone. Shane on the other hand was tormented in high school by Dmitri and the other athletic males and did... more not realize Dmitri was his mate. Shane leaves the pack, becomes a detective over the years and is just living his life. Fast forward 8 years and Dmitri is the new detective and is assigned to work with Shane. Dmitri made this move because he believes it is time to claim his mate. No more spoiling. Good story, well written, short read. The case the two are trying to solve is left unresolved and the author ended with MORE To Come. I will definitely read more.
review 2: I've read a different book by Lisa Oliver before and loved it so when I saw she had something for Love's Landscapes, I was all over it. I liked the characters and the police/detectives aspect since shifters and law enforcement/military kind of rocks in my opinion. The ending, or lack thereof, however, has me sitting here going 'WTF, where's the REST of it?!' You get to see the two main characters come together, which is great and all, but the murders are left unsolved and all the reader is left with is 'to be continued'. I was really into this one but can't rate it any higher than three stars due to the overwhelming lack of satisfaction in the ending; I almost feel it would've been better not to have read it at all until I could've gotten the entire thing. Its really a shame. less

'Are we there yet'? This fated to be mated is a bit too blah and a lot too slow...
