review 1: Horrible. Poorly edited. Characters have the same conversations multiple times. The MC, Holly, makes references and ponders about how 'non-vanilla' the H is several times (even though they've only spoken a few words to each other) and yet they have nothing but pure vanilla sex. There are things that seem like should go somewhere, but don't. Things that seem to already be known or established, but have never been discussed. It was like the author cut out various scenes from a full-length novel and just slapped them together to make a novella. Without anyone actually going back to make sure those scenes fit together cohesively. A few details in updates and comments.
review 2: Christmas is my favorite time of year with the wonderful music, lights, festivities and h
... moreoliday cheer and Lisa Renee Jones has become one of my favorite authors. So when I discovered that two of my favorite things had come together, I was excited at the opportunity to enjoy them both simultaneously. I was definitely not disappointed in Unwrapping Holly which turned out to be a sweet and oh-so-steamy holiday story. We begin with Holly Reddy, a young woman who grew up in the small town of Haven, New Hampshire. You know the kind where everyone knows everything happening around the town. Being the oldest of four children, she was always required to help out with chores and her sisters and brother, because of which she grew up needing to be in control of everything around her. Although she left her home in Haven to go to college and become a lawyer, she has now given that up to become an author with her first book making it on the New York Times best seller list. However, Holly is now struggling with a case of writer's block and is worried that her next book may not reach the success that her first attained. So she decides to return to her family home for Christmas and the familiar surroundings of Haven to focus her efforts on finishing her new novel before her deadline.Cole Wiley is the oldest of three boys (well, men) who decided to move to Haven eight years ago, leaving Manchester, New York where his family owned a contracting business. Although Cole and his brothers have divided their time between Haven and Manchester, they have now decided to sell the contracting business and focus on a new venture in Haven. As we all do when struggling with life complications, both Holly and Cole decide to escape their worlds of responsibility for a short while at the local tavern to blow off some steam. But when their paths unexpectedly cross, they both decide that some innocent flirtation could be fun especially in light of the strong attraction they both feel towards each other. Neither Holly nor Cole ever anticipated it could turn out to be anything more. But as fate steps in, they both begin to realize there may be more to their sexual bantering than merely one night.Unwrapping Holly is a very enjoyable Christmastime story. I was quickly drawn into the electrical current of sexual attraction between Holly and Cole and would have loved to read more of their story finding myself a bit sad that this was a novella. However, Ms. Jones' ability to capture so much in the limited pages of this short story speaks volumes. I so much enjoy her writing and the stories and characters she creates. This is a wonderful tale of unexpectedly finding love, and if you are looking for a short time of escape, this is a perfect read. less
