review 1: The title of this book POPPED out as I perused one of the shelves in our local library. I'm married to a minister, and couldn't help but check out the book, hoping it wasn't as cheesy as the title seemed. I read it in two days and really liked it a lot. I'm not sure if the author is a Christian or not, in all honesty. There are a few "bad" words in the book, though they are not awful, just in case any pastor's wives read it. I grew to really like all three characters. Candace is pushy, bossy and reminds me of one particular pastor's wife I knew growing up. However, she is extremely supportive of her husband, and is the brain behind many of the things that happen in their church. Ginger is sweet and has a very sketchy background. At first, she comes across as dumb, but sh... moree just has low self esteem. She's a great mom to her kids and I like how she discovers her calling. Ruthie is funny, organized and has a talent for working with people. Her quest for faith is interesting and I'm sure that many pastor's wives experience some of what she experiences. I like how the three couples come to an understanding with each other. I wasn't sure what the outcome of the book would be, but it had a nice way of tying things together. It wasn't as shocking as I was expecting. It's a good read, so check it out.
review 2: Despite the title, this is not one of those trashy romance books. My husband even asked me if the title was "Pastors' Wives" or "Pastor's Wives"---Grammar! So important!! I looked at the reviews in the back of the book and they hooked me. "Hilarious and moving. The characters are so real, I want to friend them on Facebook." "A stirring and humorous look beyond the secrets shrouding the megabusiness that is church in America. Pastors' Wives is a tender reminder that our ability to trust God is compromised when we can't trust one another." For once, the reviews were right on the money and I really enjoyed this book. It was so interesting to get a look at the behind-the-scene of megachurches. The services are run like a well-oiled machine with much fervor and showmanship. I don't deny their faith and fervor, although I myself prefer a much quieter spiritual experience. I enjoyed following a slice of the three very different women presented in this book. It was fascinating to try to figure out what made them tick. They were all sincere but handled matters very differently. less
