review 1: Novella book 3.1 in the River of Time series was just as great as the full length novels in my opinion. And actually I would class it as more of a full length novel anyway. Since it is nearly 200 pages long. This novella picks up right after the end of Torrent, give a day or two. It tells the story of what happened immediatley after the explosive ending of Torrent and this is one of the reasons I loved it so much. We got to see the aftermath of the great battle, what happened to everybody next... all the juicy details that we otherwise wouldn't have known. And to make it even better, we got chapters from Lia's POV. And she is just as amazing a protagonist as Gabbi. Don't get me wrong, I love Gabbi, but I feel like her story is done (for now). She has her man, she has he... morer life and Lia is the one who is currently living the more 'interesting' story... if that makes sense. So it was definitely a logical move to have most of this story told from her POV. She has her own adventure which was thrilling and exciting and also quite shudder inducing... this is medeival times afterall. And we also got to see a little more of Luca... her boyfriend of sorts. I loved that we got to see more interactions between Lia and Luca. I love them in the main books but they are more of a side story in those. But here they got pushed to front and centre and it was really nice to get more into their relationship. If you've read the three full length novels I highly recommend picking this one up!
review 2: So glad there was more to The River Time Series; after all, we were only introduced to Evangelia (Lia) and Luca in the first three books and hints were dropped that they just might have a story worth telling, and indeed it is so. I am glad their story has now been explored in greater depth.I really like the place this book brings Lia to at its close:"And in that moment, I glimpsed hope again, like a shaft of light piercing the darkness of my soul. Felt a lifting deep within, as if I'd been turned from the end of a bottomless cave, back toward the exit."I've been there in my own life; I remember a moment like that, and Lisa Bergren has described it so perfectly. less
