review 1: I enjoyed this very much. It is the love story of Sam and Olivia. Olivia runs the Pennywort Farm with all of its garden mazes. It also is home to women called penny loafers who walk the maze to get answers to their troubles while working at the farm for room and board. Sam and Olivia were childhood sweethearts but Sam leaves Green Valley while Olivia stays. Olivia has a connection to her personal night garden which keeps her on the farm and distant from others. When Sam returns, he and Olivia have to overcome obstacles to be together. I was a fan of the television show Pushing Daisies and this book was a little reminiscent of that with the magical properties. I was totally caught up in Sam and Olivia's love story. This was a story of love, redemption and hope with ... morea little magic thrown in.
review 2: This was a magical tale about a special farm in upstate New York owned by Olivia & her father, both are living with a secret. The farm itself holds secrets in that everything flourishes even in the most drought filled summers. I enjoyed how Olivia & Sam's relationship rekindled after his return to town, and how Olivia's secret brings them together. I'd rate this 3.5 stars only because there were a few parts where I felt such despair after feeling so happy. It was an up & down emotional ride, one that I'm glad I took!
