review 1: Disappointing. I like historical fiction. This was not that. It's a "yarn" about three sisters who reunite at their aunt's funeral. They each bring their own baggage and find that this is the time to examine their past and their future together. They have a history of magic in their family and I was hoping for a bit of Sarah Addison Allen, but it was not to be. The story is a little too sweet and predictable, except the ending where the author decided to shake things up, and not in a good way. I found it very unsatisfying.

... morework for me. I found the plot lacking. Nothing too exciting seemed to happen. I was bored with the book until about 200 pages in, then it seemed to get a little better, but ended up boring again. The writing seemed pretentious in the beginning and I'm not sure if I just became immune to it or if the writing actually changed. I'm happy to be done with the book, and I actually skipped several paragraphs and didn't miss anything. less
