review 1: A story of a woman who inherits a house in France and little else when her husband dies unexpectedly. After his death, she discovers her husband fathered a second child besides their son. She travels to France to sell the house and uncovers some family secrets from her husband's childhood. In the process of repairing the house to get it ready to sell, she also repairs her spirit. This book reminds me of Under the Tuscan Sun.
review 2: I read this book in two days, putting it down only when I couldn't keep my eyes open. Merle is a great main character, flawed but likable, who goes through an interesting journey and comes out a different person in the end. ... more and mystery and romance to boot!I waffled between three and four stars, but I'm an easy grader and went ahead with the four. There were some typos in the kindle version ("a" instead of "an" a few times, and some--gasp!--misplaced apostrophes) and there was less of a twist at the end than I was hoping for. Still, it was interesting enough that I didn't need to find out the butler did it to enjoy the novel. (He didn't. There is no butler.)Sure makes me want to drink wine and eat cheese on the French countryside! less
