review 1: First thought – I really liked it. Second thought – This is a lot of work.I waited a few days after finishing this book before even attempting to write a review. There is a lot of information here. Some of it quite frankly annoyed me, not because Dr. Rankin is wrong, but because I didn’t want to hear it.The beginning of the book is about placebo and nocebo theories. I understand what she was trying to communicate and I think the inclusion of this information adds credibility to what came later in the book. There is a negative connotation associated with the word placebo in the medical facilities in which I have worked. Therefore, each time she mentioned any CAM treatments and labeled the effect as placebo, I felt my energy shift and I was aware of defensiveness. Aga... morein, not a bad thing but quite uncomfortable. The other sections of the book in which she gets into the prescription for healing were wonderful and helped to restore my energy. Be forewarned – if you want to get the most out of this book you have to really do the exercises and they are not easy. You will learn some things about yourself that might just blow your mind. For me, this won’t be a read it and you’re done type of book. I expect to go back and read it several more times. I highly recommend it for you too.
review 2: I came across L.R. when I stumbled across her TEDx(?)-talk; and I am happy I actually read the book. This is definitely one of the better self help books! It is well written, not too repetitive (in some places it has to; in others it could have been shorter - but not by much), it does offer suggestions and it motivates. The book tries to prove that your thoughts can heal (or harm) you. L.R. does so by referring to lots and lots of studies, interviews and own experience (including lots of stories, which makes it way more entertaining than it sounds). I think she makes her point well; but I am afraid that mostly people who already believe it will read the book.In the second part she suggests a 6 step plan to improve the readers thoughts (and by doing so the readers health - and possibly life). The plan itself is not too surprising, but the questions she suggests to ask oneself for that goal are definitely important - and hard to answer (I promised myself to set aside some time to do find answers for me in the near future. Mostly because while reading through the questions I couldn't answer some of them, while I strongly felt I sould have an answer).PS: Whether this book changes your life depends on you (The life changing part comes after reading it and that has little to do with the book). It will most likely not radically change mine - but it does have an impact. less

Very dry, and sadly not as informative as I had hoped.
