review 1: Learn about the workings of a butterfly farm in central America from butterfly to shipping the pupa, what the workers do, and how the eggs change. Good for common core with an index, glossary, and side bars with photos. There is also a map showing the locations of the two places named in the book. Photographs are close up and large enough for a group to see. The reading level is about second grade and up, but it could be shared aloud with a first grade class or one on one with preschoolers.
review 2: I would pair "Handle with Care:An Unusual Butterfly Journey" with Alan Madison's "Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly". Both books talk about the process of metamorphosis. They also both talk about how carful we have to be with butterflies in captivity. "Ha... morendle with Care: An Unusual Butterfly Journey" give more indepth details about the entire process of transforming from an egg all the way a butterfly and how these they are handled when in human care. "Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly" is a vibrant story about a girl's interest in butterflies, talking about migration, metamorphosis, and how to care for the butterfly as she experiences this "way cool" butterfly. less
