review 1: When I first started this book I thought it was going to amazing, but as I got further into it, it was just sort of OK. I will say that I didn't want to put it down, but that was more because of the "mystery" than the characters or the writing. The characters were just sort of there-- not too fleshed out. The youngest character in the book, Evie, was probably the most developed. Without giving away the plot, I will only say that the theme of the book seems to be secrets and the consequences they can carry. This was a first novel for this author, and she kept me interested enough to want to read something else by her. With that said, though, her 2nd effort will need to show some improvement to entice me to read a 3rd.
review 2: Interesting writing style. S
... moreimplicity of the sentence structure was nicely juxtaposed with a complex plot line and a number of characters. Many plot points were simply unbelievable. The Ray character did not behave in any way like a person with his particular mental health issues. Roy did a good job of writing in the voices of the youngsters in the story, and of building tension. But overall I felt like I was watching a procedural drama on TV. less
