review 1: Whiplash River was my first Lou Berney novel and I'm really quite glad that I discovered him. In terms of characterization, backdrop and general story line he is reminiscent of several of my favorite authors, Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen with maybe a little bit of Tim Dorsey thrown into the mix. I am not suggesting that at the present time he is as good aas any of those authors, but I think he shows a lot of promise and I would'nt be suprised if he gets there in time. I will certainly keep my eyes open for his next.
review 2: Loved this book. Lou Berney is by far one of my favorite authors. It kept me interested. I just hated I couldn't read it all the way through in one setting. I had to keep stopping and picking it back up but I bookmarked the page so ... moreall was good. You gotta read this one but start with GutStraight first. Shake and Gina get into some stuff that you wouldn't think they can get out of but they do. less
