review 1: 2.75 to 3 starsI'm not entirely sure why, but I just couldn't connect with this one. I found the disjointed style of writing just a touch too overdone and I ended up skimming more often than not. I also found Luki's whole angst over Richard got annoying. The end was a lot more engaging for me as the story became more action driven. Still invested enough in the characters to want to read the next book in the series, so I'll see if I have better luck engaging in its story.
review 2: 3.5 stars rounded upThis is a series where I have given the books a lower star than i would the entire series thus far . . . Love this coupleLove their growing relationship . . . We are treated to a developing relationship, a ROMANCE! Not perfect MCs, but ones that have mistakes in th
... moreeir pasts, big ones.I love the quiet endearments . . . Esp the use of the word 'loving' throughout the books so far. The active form of the word....swoon.....The first 20% of this book is amazingly written. The language selection around emotional pain is ..... Such talent. The crime story line in this book was easier to figure out than the first book, easier to see its trajectory. The miscommunication that was the angst part of their relationship was interesting. I understood the need to test their relationship, but it felt a tad manipulative?.?? And the timing given the rings was odd .... But that could be just me.Well written, worth reading!! Off to buy next book..... less
