review 1: Good story, centering around a cooking competition for the Lunden family's faltering restaurant. Prodigal son Max, who has been wandering the world learning unique cooking techniques, has been called home to help the team in the first rounds of the competition. He has to face his attraction to family friend Jules as well as reconnect with father Gus and brother Danny. My favorite characters were actually the other chefs in the kitchen--quiet but competent Beck and bubbly and happy Win. While facing personal issues, the team works together in the competition. Another side story focuses on the 3 judges and their relationships, although that doesn't really get off the ground too much in this book. I especially liked the cooking parts of the story, as they decided on the... moreir meals for the contest, and there are recipes included in the back of the book. The romantic scenes were probably more heavy-duty than regular romance, but I didn't think they really were erotica. Pretty sexy cover, however. I'll continue with the series to see in what direction the story goes.
review 2: I absolutely adored this book. Partly because I'm a cook and I love food, but OMG, watching Max and Jules deal with their family stuff (and help each other deal!) and figure out what they really wanted from life was incredibly powerful. I was verklempt for the last thirty pages at least. This book was completely note-perfect, I loved every character, and I want to eat EVERYTHING described. I ordered all five of Edwards's other books immediately on finishing this one, that's how much I loved it. A completely satisfying reading experience. less
