review 1: "Before We Met" was like an old movie, classic but also somewhat predictable. About 1/2 way through the novel I figured out what was happening and where the ending would go. However... I was a little off on my thinking. The author took some twisted turns and surprisingly turned around the way I thought it would end. I feel 4 stars is a good rating. Lucie Whitehouse has a great way of pulling you along on a wild ride and made me want to keep reading into the wee hours of the night.
review 2: I don't think I'd categorize this a thriller as it said on the back cover (comment by Observer who gave it Thriller of the Month) - I think it was too slow paced for that. The premise isn't a new one - husband not where she thinks he is - but I was caught up in her hunt for ... moreclues and explanations - though it did go on a bit too long. The 'twist' I could see coming but the actual denouement, I didn't - though I was left feeling a bit cheated. My main problems were that because we were constantly TOLD what a wonderful guy he was but never actually shown it, I wasn't as invested in the characters as I'd like to have been. Plus there were some holes in the plot that left me scratching my head. But it did keep my interest and I read it all in one sitting. less
