review 1: Another page turning thriller from Lucie Whitehouse, although I didn't enjoy it as much as her other two books. Kate is running away to the Isle of Wight, away from an intense relationship with Richard, but what has made her run? A local woman, Alice disappears, and Kate empathises with her and becomes obsessed with her disappearance and whether there were parallels between their situations. The author slowly builds up a tense and chilling atmosphere, but for me, the central 'bad' character turned out to be a bit of a cliche, ripped straight out of the psycho textbook. I think the author could have built up more of a realistic and convincing villain, and towards the end, the climactic events seemed rather rushed and overdramatic, almost as if she had got bored with the sto... morery, which was a shame when what had gone before had been so carefully constructed
review 2: I really enjoyed the first half this book, the setting of the scenes around the Isle of Wight and the drip feeding of the story line and how Kate met Richard. It was obvious he was married, but the way his character was revealed had me hooked. About half way through the first email arrived and I expected the book to have a massive pick up of pace which just doesn't quite take off. I enjoyed the book overall but felt so much more could have been done to create more tension and the ending felt a little rushed. Would definitely searching out more by. This author though. less
