Generally, I don’t like memoirs and biographies of famous actresses and actors. It’s not like I dislike these people for wanting to share the stories of their success. It is just that I don’t enjoy reading about it. Like I get it you are rich and famous but you telling me about how “hard” your life is, isn’t going to make me relate or feel bad for you.
So I bet you are wondering why I decided to even read Why Not Me? By Mindy Kaling. Well here is why: a) I had a friend recommend the book to me and I bought it so I wasn’t about to waste my money and b) I figured a nice light hearted book was a great way to start of the new year. Boy was I right.
I absolutely loved Why Not Me? It put a totally real perspective on Mindy’s life and what it really took to get to where she is at. Of course, in Mindy’s way, there were a lot of tidbits about her real life as well outside of the Hollywood limelight. She covered topics from relationships to having the confidence to go after your dreams.
What I liked most of all I felt like Mindy was writing towards a friend instead of writing towards an audience like many actresses and actors do. I felt like I truly knew her as if we had a conversation after reading this memoir.
I really hope Mindy continues to write books as she moves in her biggest role yet as mother. I believe she provides a tremendous insight to women throughout the country with funny jokes and real talk that many people wish they had the guts to say out loud.
And finally, thank you Mindy for starting my 2018 out with a very happy bang.
