review 1: This book was good. It was compelling and easy to read, but there were parts of the book that weren't completely worked out. I just seemed like ti lacked depth in some places. That said this was an easy read, and would be a good book for an airport, sun-bathing, or a mini-vacation. After the death of her husband and son, Julia returns to Wharton Park, where she has fond childhood memories. it is at Wharton Park that she meets Kit Crawford, the new owner of this historic English home. Together they find a diary, and work to discover the story of its author and in the meantime learn something about themselves. While this was a fun historical fiction, romance, if you are into this genre Kearsley books The Winter Sea and Mariana are much better written.

... morehis book is similar in many ways to Downton Abbey in it's setting, family history, and conflict. The story spans from the 1930s to the present time, from Wharton Park estate in England to Thailand. The aristocratic family includes a concert pianist and an array of shocking secrets, woven with parallel stories of the working class members of those who serve the famous Crawfords. There's romance, intrigue, and passion throughout this epic international tale. It was definitely hard to put down and offered many surprise twists. less
