review 1: I have mixed feelings about rating this book..It took me a while to get involved with the plot but I had read good reviews so I stayed the course. The story itself is very good although somehow, the author left me feeling disconnected from the characters...primarily Emilie. I also found the writing to be inconsistent, as there were some well written paragraphs and quite a few that lacked fluency. Editing left much to be desired but overall, I did enjoy the story.
review 2: I didn't really care for the main character Emilie in the first half of the book, I found her just too weak. As her story grew so did her character. When Emilies' mother dies she inherits a beautiful estate that is in need of major repairs. Along comes her "knight in shining armor" Sebastia... moren (who really turns out to be an opportunist out to get his hands on Emilies' fortune) to the rescue. The story of Emiles' father and Sebastians' grandmother during WW2 and how their lives are intertwined is also played out in this heart-wrenching story. less
