review 1: The fact that this book was a work of fiction based on historical back-ground made me even more interested in the story. I love how much depth there was to the characters. There were a couple twists in the story that I did not see coming. Something I appreciate as a reader. I love those, "No way" moments. There was one disturbing part of the book that was really hard to read through but I understand why it was put in the book. Overall I enjoyed reading it!
review 2: Such a vast improvement on The Orchard House. I found this book enjoyable, well researched and basically a good exciting tale. Yes, I agree the Gestapo were caricatures of the villians from schoolboys old story books! Maybe the story could have warranted more vivid descriptions of wartime occupied
... more Paris - the tense atmosphere of the city etc., rather than missing this out and Constance arriving from A to B! But at the end of the day it was easy light reading, a good yarn, a little of Mills & Boon but surprisingly good if not wishing for a too intellectual heavy read. I actually think LR has improved since her first novel The Orchard House. less
