review 1: I checked out this book from the library one day just to see if I might like this type of mystery. I was instantly hooked and loved how the author writes. After looking up the series online, I learned that this is another name for an author I enjoy reading! No wonder I was hooked! I love the small town life and visuals I got from this. The two main characters aren't some "dumb blonde" types of chicks. I didn't get annoyed with them like I sometimes do with others. The mystery had me going for a little, but I did figure it out about 3/4s in. I'm not a very artistic person, but I feel this is going to be a nice series for me!
review 2: Easy, entertaining, and light read. Great Decoupage tips thrown in at the beginning of every chapter, and the "craftiness" did n... moreot over-shadow the plot. When the town Mayor is stuffed in a steamer trunk and dumped in Morse Point Lake, the very lake he was trying to get Nate Williams to sell (Nate doesn't want to sell), Brenna sets out to prove Nate's innocence. Plan on reading #2 in the series: Cut to the Corpse. Notes for myself so I can brush up if I need to before reading the next book:Brenna Miller - newcomer to Morse point lake. Works at Vintage Papers. Trying to start a new life after a bad incident at work happened to her in Boston.Tenley Morse - town is named after her family. Owns Vintage Papers. Best friend and former college-roomy of Brenna Miller.Nate Williams - former bad-boy artist. Owner of the Morse Point Lake and the land/cabins surrounding it. Brenna's possible love interest and land-lord.Dom Capricola - Owns the newspaper in Morse Point, but lives in Bayview. Family is former Mob, but he is a Harvard grad. and trying to "clean up" the family image.Chief Barker - Sheriff of Morse Point, likable guy.Ed - writer for the Morse Point Courier, looking for any story that will shoot him to the top.Porter Sisters, Marie and Ella - twins who are the unofficial historians of the town, when they aren't bickering they are gossiping. Remind me of the Baldwin Sisters from tv's "The Walton's".Matt - very secondary character, but an old flame of Tenley's that she was forced to break-up with in high school becuase of differences in social stature. Maybe interested in each other again, though. less
