review 1: Almost a four. I got the feeling that this book was heavily condensed to fit some idea of the perfect word count. I wished that the story would have been spun more thinly, with time to get to know the characters more deeply. They nearly feel like caricatures. The supernatural side of things could have been explained more, the family connections broadened to enrich the story and characters. It leans too much towards a simple ghost story. I think Perkins is capable of writing the book I wish this was, I wonder if it was over-edited.
