review 1: 3.25 rating. (the rating is for the high, holy-cow scorching chemistry between these two likable characters)See Don Bradshaw's review. I agree with everything he says. I would have probably rated higher if it would have been a short story. But for the length I needed more from this story than the usual rent boy/john who fall in love as a plot. For example I expected more drama between Carter and his sleazy employers who supposedly had sleazy thugs to keep the rent boys in line. He was worried about quitting the agency -and he was worried when he didn't fulfill the remaining time left in his contract, but nothing happened. I also expected a more dramatic scene, or even better, a series of dramatic scenes between Rock and his parents, especially the father who was the one th... moreat had damaged Rock physically, mentally and emotionally, shoving him so far into the closet that he couldn't find the way out. The scars that he carried every day could be laid down at his father's feet. But what we got was a pretty quick let-me-tie-down this plot hole and that was it. Okay...
review 2: Loved it. Two strong men, each with major issues, fall in love. Sounds pretty simple, and it is so well done. I read one of the first books in this series and it was ok. This one was so much better. I loved the main characters, the supporting cast is great and the journey they both undertake is tough, filled with right amount of angst. There were a number of places where Ms. Aicher could have taken the easy way out - Hank could have been a cliched villain, Carter’s last clients could have been vicious, Rock’s family could’ve handled his announcement in a heavy-handed way. Instead all of these events happened in an organic way. I was sniffly through the last section of the book - well done, Ms. Aicher. Bought from kobo. less
