review 1: Take note, erotic romance writers! You CAN write a stunningly delicious erotic romance in third person! *end rant*I read the first book in this series and fell in love with Lynda Aicher's work. It has taken far longer than it would normally take me to get around to reading the second book, but I am actually kind of glad. Ms. Aicher's books are a treat to read, like a decadent bite of thick, hearty steak still sizzling from the grill in a sea of overly sweet and too-fluffy desserts.Deklan would be a typical alpha male except for the fact he has very real, very deep problems. He shocked me several times in this story, both with the level of respect he had for the submissive he falls in love with, and the breath-taking vulnerability he offers her. He is not the white knight i... moren shining armor riding to the rescue. That is not reality, that is fantasy. He is a fiercely possessive man who has to deal with the reality of the world he lives in, and has to respect boundaries set for him by life as well as his submissive. You won't find a wilting flower of a heroine clinging to her support post dom in this book. No, in this book the submissive, Kendra, is allowed to thrive and bloom. She still has her support post dom but she uses him as a support post, not something to cling to while he slaughters her dragons for her. Kendra learns to handle her own dragons, thank you. But slaying dragons is not an easy thing, and the brutal emotional agony she has to go through in order to do it is almost painful to watch. And through it all her dom is there for her, going through the agony with her instead of trying to keep it from her.I cried reading this book. Nothing unusual there. The sex was hot. Nothing unusual there. What was unusual and so delightful to experience was just how REAL every character in the book was. I can't wait to read the next one, but I am going to hold off at least a week so I can savor it so much more.
review 2: Better than book one, I give it 3.9 stars. There is just something lacking in the books and I am not sure what it is. They start out good, the plots are good, the charaters are engaging and I am invested in wanting to know about their stories. Then I finsih the book and I am disapointed. I am not sure what happened. I think it is the endings. Maybe I want a better HEA or a more of a middle because it goes from the begining to the end to quickly. I will say that I liked the decisions that Kendra ends of making. They showed strength and not stupidity. less
