review 1: This book didn't grab my interest until I was about 70% into it and for that reason alone I gave it 3 stars. It just started out too slow for my taste. Once I hit that point though the book proved an interesting read. I didn't know much about Poe or his life so this book gave me a new perspective. Several times throughout the book I went to the Internet to gather more information on the characters. I appreciate books that help me explore further.
review 2: I can't believe I spent money for this book. It is perhaps the worst book I have ever read. For the first two-thirds of the book, other than name dropping, next to nothing happens, the plot stalls and fails to develop. Why the book is titled Mrs. Poe, I have no idea. The main character is Frances Osgood,
... morea pathetic, love-starved, married woman overreacting to a few longing looks and eventual kisses from Edgar Allen Poe. She is a fickle, wishy-washy, ninny. I hate her character. In fact, I am hard pressed to find any redeeming qualities for the main characters. With the exception of Mrs. Clemm, Poe's aunt and mother in law, the characters and plot are predictable and monotonous. less
