review 1: CHARACTERS:Rating: 5. I thought the characters were very well described and very believable. Throughout the book, Kurland was constantly helping the understanding of what each and every character was like, even if it was a minor character like Lydia Cooke. She was more fluently descriptive in the looks and personality of the major characters like Samantha, Derrick, Oliver, and Peter. I loved how she also went into detail of the characters from previous books, even though people probably already know them well. The characters in this book were some of my favorite in the series, because there is a minimal amount of things that i don't like about them. "if there had ever been anyone born to keep his head while everyone around him was losing their minds and trying to make him ... morelook like the crazy one, it was Derrick Cameron" (Kurland 305). The entire book leads up to learning more and more about one character, and its so fun to continue to learn about how the author portrays them. SETTING: Rating: 4. The setting of my book fluctuates from place to place a lot, and that's very helpful in the lay out of the story. There is a lot of time travel in this story, so there's also different time periods, and the way Kurland portrays the different times is incredible. The passing of time is absolutely perfect. It's not too fast, and not too slow that it's boring. It does a phenomenal job of keeping the reader hooked into the book. "Stumbled out into somewhere that was definitely not modern London" (Kurland 268). She uses small hints to tell you the setting has changed, and it's brilliant because you don't have to continue putting in the extra effort, it's there for you all the time, and it's incredible.PLOT: Rating: 4. Overall, the plot was very good, starting off with just the need to find a piece of Elizabethan lace, and expanding into a much more serious and dramatic situation. There are a lot of miniature climaxes throughout the story, and one that was a bit bigger at the end,and that's the way she wrote the plot. In a way, after reading so many of her books, the way she writes this becomes quite monotone and a bit boring, but it keeps one entertained for quite a while. "She wondered just what she had gotten herself into" (Kurland 129). There's a lot of miniature climaxes, that keep the reader hooked throughout the entire story.THEMES:Rating: 3. There were not many evident themes in this book, if there were any at all. One that i found is that you shouldn't jump to conclusions about a person, because what you expect and what is can be completely different. The book is a romantic chick flick story, so that's the main focus after about the halfway point, and that's what the book focuses on. But it's learned that someone you expect one thing from can be quite the opposite. "I wanted you to have a damned long time to think about where you were coming and have an equal number of times to change your mind" (Kurland 338). There's a difference in the characters after the theme is revealed, and it's brilliant.OVERALL:I thought the book was absolutely completely incredible. It's definitely one of my favorites by this author, and i think it will continue to be for a while. I love the lack of whining and crying in this one like there was in previous ones, and i thought the story line was really unique and smart. I would recommend it to a friend if they were looking for a good romance novel to read that wasn't dirty or anything like that, because this one is completely PG.
review 2: Time travel seems to be a popular subject, especially with locations in England and Scotland. As I love books written about Scotland, I choose ROSES IN MOONLIGHT by Lynn Kurland. She created an interesting plot based on her characters, Samantha and Derrick's romantic adventure in time back and forth to Elizabethan England. Her Chapter 1 introduction to time travel ghosts initially confused me, as to how they were woven into the basic plot. I think having read more of the author's previous books would have given me a better understanding of this one. It never stated that it was part of a series. I did feel that it was way to chaste for today's reader-where was the sex? less

I wish they would have spent a little more of the story back in time, but still a really good read!

Some time travel. Light romance. A little pointless.
