Maggie Sullivan Mystery
review 1: I am always on the look out for new writers of mysteries who can convey a good plot and characters with a lot of personality. M. Ruth Myers fills the bill in the writer category and Maggie Sullivan fills the bill in the character category. She is tough, likable, sassy, smart, and independent. The plot line slowly emerges, helping you to put the pieces together and figure out 'who done it' all the while enjoying how the author has weaved the story, which is not too complicated to be believable. Maggie and the people around her bring to life an interesting and intriguing mystery. This was the first book of M. Ruth Myers that I have read....be assured, I will definitely read more of her books!
review 2: Set in 1939, our feisty heroine PI Maggie chases bad guys with
... more a .38 while giving us glimpses of the despair and poverty of the times. In this story, wealthy businessman Wildman is one of several who've been duped in a false investment scheme. The others prefer to cover up their embarrassment and write their money off. Wildman may write off his loss, but he wants to deal with the man who defrauded him. He hires Maggie to find the crook. Unfortunately, the man turns up dead as soon as Maggie starts nosing around. Now someone threatens Maggie; someone who thinks she knows too much.Maggie won't let a few wounds and bruises stop her from finding out what's going on, though. She's in a man's business; she has to be tough. And she's determined to do her job by herself. She even hates calling on her father's cop friends (and her own particular cop friend) but sometimes it's necessary when she needs information.I enjoyed this cozy mystery not just because of the era it portrays, but because the plot is well-crafted.Good read. less
