The Rarest Blooms
review 1: Number 2 in the series, even better than #1. Hawkeswell has lost his bride. @ years later he finds her hiding T the rarest blooms as Lizzie. Verity tells him she had been coerced into marrying him and she hopes for an annulment. A love story ensues, but this book is also filled with history. Verity's father owned an ironworks near Manchester and we learn all about that. Verity has been worried that men from her hometown are missing and tries to find out herself, but finally must ask her husband for help. We meet a man who will become important if the next book. A mystery is solved and a government scandal comes to light.
review 2: 2.5 stars - needed more plot, less sex.I didn't realize that the conflict the story seemed to be building up to----finding Verity's
... moreold friend Michael---wasn't actually going to happen "on stage" in the story, but would be glossed over afterward so that, guess what, Hawkeswell and Verity could have sex ad nauseum yet once again. As I was listening to this on audio, I found myself regularly fast-forwarding through the explicit, almost pornographic, and far too-long sex scenes that were longer and described in much more detail than anything plot related.I will reiterate what I said in the Audible review I wrote: This is my first Madeline Hunter novel, but it won't be my last. I've already downloaded Ravishing in Red and am looking forward to listening to that one, since most reviewers say it's much better than this one. less
