review 1: I was intrigued with the cover design and the title -- and really like the way both fit the premise and theme. My problem is with chapters that switch POV in 1st person without a warning. The repeat of information between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 had me wondering if this was an editing mistake until I figured out the 'I' speaking was a different person. Add to that, some long passages in which every sentence of dialog is couched in author (masked as MC) adding qualifiers to tell you what the sentence means. Some people don't mind that. I find it distracts from the story flow.
review 2: I thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know when "nice" became the kiss of death, but it's a nice mystery. Enough romance to be real, enough violence to be authentic, enough "who done
... more it" to be satisfying, and characters that made me laugh, and reminded me that I am not the only person in the world to feel a particular emotion. I live almost in the part of Michigan where this story takes place, and Ms. Pill has a great sense of what it takes to describe this area in a way that makes it real without making it entirely too red-neck to stand. I know it takes time for an author to get another book out - and this is going to be time that drags for me. I want to read more. less
