review 1: I adored Robinson's "Mistress by Mistake" when I read is a few years ago. I searched for other titles by her and didn't find any. Disappointing.Recently, I went back through my favorite book list seeking new titles from those authors and found Robinson had released several more titles. This is the third book in the "Jane Street" series about the women (mistresses) who live there. I remembered Caroline (the heroine) from the first book because her situation was so unusual. She wasn't a mistress, but a wife, abandoned to Jane Street residence by her husband as punishment. She played mother type to all the girls on the street. I liked her in the first book and easily fell into the details of her story.Robinson writes a contemporary Regency romance (which means a fresh voice f... moreor this genre). The characters are not the "found my soul mate" slow-fall-into-love types. These characters have relationship problems. The sex is erotic (not erotica), explosive and imaginative. Both of the H and h have loved before. They have made mistakes. They are imperfect. They are not innocent of their sins. They fell hard into instant lust but failed to make the changes necessary in their bahavior to obtain their happily ever after. One year after their whirlwind romance and marriage, the heroine made a mistake that the hero could not forgive. So he purchased the whore's residence for her to live in among the other kept women. Once a year (on her birthday), he visits and they have sex.The characters are of opposite temperments. He's the "don't display or feel any emotion, control the world around him type" type and she's the "red-headed, impulsive shrew who throws things when she's angry" type. aka When she's in a temper, the heroine behaves like a spoiled brat. It's annoying, but I forgive her.The hero is forced to come to terms with the way he treated his wife. He could have packed her off to some country residence, banished her from London. But instead, he held her up to be shamed by treating her like a mistress. Horrible man.The beginning of the book had me chuckling. The heroine writes horrid novels, using her husband as the model for villains, finding new ways of killing him off in each new book. On the other hand she misses his "penile perfection."Good stuff.
review 2: 2.5 stars. This started off ok but jumped the shark a few times with some TSTL scenes that threw me right out of the story. It had some decent parts that was pretty funny, but I think the author tried a bit too hard and ended up all over the place with too many implausible situations. It was good enough to make me interested in the series though, so I will try her again and see if I can get lucky the next time. less

Why do I even read this stuff? Oh, yes, Loretta Chase and Courtney Milan. Not this book, though.
