review 1: This book was pretty light and amusing, though way too over-the-top and convoluted to be anything close to believable. I read the first half happily enough (maybe 3 stars at that point), but the second half seemed to go on way longer than necessary and I almost abandoned it. I think it ran off the rails by getting caught up in resolving the details of a lot of minor plot threads that could have been wrapped up quite efficiently in a sentence or two, or not at all.
review 2: Sir Michael Bayard arrives at his new mistress' house in the middle of the night. He has been drinking but he still climbs into bed and has his way with his mistress. She slept through it as she also had had a few drinks and was thinking it was just a dream. In the morning they are both surp... morerised as this is not the mistress, but her sister. Bay is upset since he had spent a lot of money on the mistress for new clothes and had also sent (on loan) a very expensive family heirloom that was now missing. He plans on keeping the sister to "fill in" for his missing mistress. I found the main characters to be very likable and fun people. The book was an easy read with a feel of humor running through it. I found it a very enjoyable read. I look forward to reading more by Maggie Robinson. less
