review 1: Cook books aren't my usual type of reading. But I've been interested in bentos for a while now, and apparently there's little better than this book. So obviously, I had to read it. I quite liked it! Most of the information on how to make a bento can be found on the Just Bento blog. The added value of the book is in the recipes. I really liked how there were quite a number of basic recipes, supplemented with a lot of variations. Not just for Japanese food, but also for 'American/European' style food. The book focuses on 'sober' bentos rather than the work of art kyaraben you see all over the web. Recommended for anyone interested in bentos or a different lunch than just a sandwich.
review 2: As always, it's hard to read a cookbook. I'm one of those people that n
... moreeed to see how to do something then actually do it to be able to do it. I hope that makes sense. Cooking is one of those things and a good cookbook has to be able to portray all these. The Just Bento Cookbook does. It has pictures, which I think are invaluable in a cookbook and the instructions are broken down in a simple way that even I can understand.I actually think the biggest strength of this book is the mindset it forces you to have. Now when I cook things, I think about putting them aside for a meal or how they'll fit into my tiny, Bento box.Now if there's one weakness it's that not all the recipes have pictures. It starts showing pictures of the food, of how to prepare, but then it all fades. Since it's a cookbook, you don't really read it in order and bounce around so just because you get to the end, doesn't make you an expect. It's still a great book and would probably be better for those who are far superior cooks compared to me. less

Every recipe WORKS! Tasty food that is lovely to look at, without a lot of silly fussing.
