review 1: If GoodReads allowed half-star ratings, I would rate this book a 2.5 out of 5. An interesting take on the whole zombie apocalypse genre, but the writing wasn't that good (maybe because it was translated to English). It was written in a blog/journal format, which I don't mind, if done properly. The author did do a fairly good job of writing it in that form. There were a lot of parts (sentences) that sounded like a 5th grader wrote them, though. Because of that, you can't fully delve into the story and take it seriously. It's a shame because I wanted to get lost in Manel Loureiro's zombie world. This is book one of a trilogy, and seeing that I purchased the other two books, I will eventually be reading them as well, even though I've heard that they get worse and worse as you... more go on. Overall, if you like zombie apocalypse stories, give this book a read. For the most part, you can get past the negative attributes and experience a little bit of a different take on this type of story. Like I said, 2.5 out of 5 stars (even though it had the potential to be a 3 or 4 star book).
review 2: With my longer commute to work these days, I have been listening to all the apocalypse books on my sister's audible account. This book follows the "single survivor who's been holed up at home and is forced to leave his safe place" model which is almost identical to a few other b-level apocalypse books I have read in this genre, only made a bit worse by being a translation from the original Spanish. This guy says "If X happens, I'm really screwed!" so often I wonder if the translation website was stuck on the word "screwed." Was it great literature? No. Did it help me pass the time while I commute? Yes. less
