review 1: Part 1 is pretty good and fairly universal in the sense that the protagonist goes through feelings and ideas that most people have. The treatment is sometimes nice and poetic. The drawings are just OK. Part 2 becomes very France-specific. And even though one can generalize the right/left political struggle portrayed in that part, it still lacks the appeal of the first book. Part 2 borders on lecturing at some points, which was not really welcome.Overall not bad, 2.5 stars.
review 2: Originally written in French, but my library has the Spanish translation. It was a total delight to read, taps into deep emotional currents and is a wonderful example of the power of the graphic form. It's a slice of life comic about a photographer, Marco, who has quit taking w
... morear photographs as the story opens. He's living in the country on his savings with his cat, being aimless and wandering onto the property of cantankerous farmers. He meets a philosophical old dude who he kind of bonds with. When his cat gets hurt, he gains a veterinarian girlfriend. During the course of the story, which covers a bunch of years, he finds a new direction for his photography - which is simultaneously celebrated and looked down upon by the art world, resists the idea of having a child, discovers a repulsive secret about his old guy friend, loses his father, and has philosophical conversations with himself and his therapist.Of course, reading a synopsis is not the same as experiencing the book. I'm pretty sure there's an english translation out there, so get to it. less
