review 1: This short book was pretty good. Still not much of a storyline, but the thing that bothered me in this second book was the POV. Towards the end, I started getting confused about whose POV it was. Once it seemed like Cole's perspective but evolved into Rachel's somehow. Anyways, a little confusing, but nothing I can't handle. These books, so far, are a great quick read if that's what you're looking for (which I currently was). But don't read these if you're looking for a deep, intriguing story, because honestly, it isn't there.
review 2: While this series fit in with a lot of my likes, vampires, unwitting "normal" heroine suddenly catapulted into a fantastical world, a "pureblood" no less, some horror, hot erotica, I found myself increasingly uncomfortable by th
... moree worldbuilding, specifically the disconnect between how special the women were meant to be, but how they are treated. I suppose the term "breeders" should have given me some inkling but the initial emphasis on how rare, how special they are to the plot lulled me into a false sense of what exactly I was reading.Part 1 is not as uncomfortable and I found it a good read which is why I went for parts 2 and 3. By 3 I was so disgusted by what the female characters go through, I couldn't finish it or continue to buy the series. For the first time reading erotica, I felt the point of view was extreme male sadism, degradation, and women as objects with no control over the sexual situations they are put in. I suppose the scene in #1 with Rachel's "normal" friend Michelle should have given me a clue, but I had faithfully read the author's caveat that there would be some non-voluntary activity and the following sexual scenes between Cole, Rachel and Nathan were sexy as hell. So I continued.By Parts 2 and 3 some of the excesses of male pornographic fantasy were fully represented, I don't want to give away any plot details for people who may enjoy degradation, sadism, but "foaming" from multiple emissions doesn't do anything other than turn me off. Also the male "equipment" gets more and more invasive and gory as the series goes on.By #3 women willing or no are simply convenient receptacles for semen. Insteads of hot under the collar, I wanted a very long hot shower. less
