Sharon McCone
review 1: Sharon McCone interviews Camilla and Jay Givens, who have been recommended to her by a lawyer friend. Camilla has been seeing some very strange things. Sharon figures there is more to it than what she's heard. At the same time, Ry's company is protecting Van Hoffman, who has disappeared. The ransom note asks for almost exactly what he and his wife have in the bank, and the wife doesn't seem to want to pay any ransom. Some of the characters, the Night Searchers, are involved in a Treasure Hunting Game, and some of these characters are a little weird and not totally honest either. Then Sharon is accused of trying to drown the vanished man.
review 2: I've read Muller for many years and used to like her. The snobbery and elitism dripping from the pages of he
... morer latest work was just too much for me. So much of the book is devoted to McCone's Mercedes, her BMW, her fabulous homes. Anyone in the book who is not wealthy is treated with condescending pity or contempt: poor people are dirty, they smell and are bigoted to boot. There also was an error early in the book where on page a character's father is said to have died when she was young and then thirty pages later he is said to have just died on the golf course. This may have been to illustrate the speaker's unreliability but it is never addressed: very sloppy. Having said all this, the book holds up as a readable mystery if you're willing to overlook its many flaws. less

Not up to her usual standards. Had to make myself finish this.

Always an author if choice. She did not disappoint.
