review 1: For a quick-read little romance book, this was actually pretty good. Of course there was the awkward inner-monologue so common to this genre, but the book had other points I was pleased with. There were a few plot changes that I didn't see coming (both the arrival and departure of Olaf, though I won't say how!) and I liked the fact that Seona was only beautiful to Gryffid... it's funny that at the end of the novel, people were still calling her ugly. I also think her father, Diarmod, was completely believable and acted as expected for this time period. As a side note, the discussion about boats having rudders in the back and not on the side was interesting.
review 2: I loved it! The characters were fantastic, real in their worlds, the author had exquisite poeti
... morec lines scattered throughout the book, worthy of national awards if they could be spun into full poems! I also loved the purity of the characters and the honor present in even the antagonists of the story. Indeed, the most heroic act of the whole book is actually conducted by one of the antagonists. All in all, this is one of my favorite books, but I am biased because I identify very strongly with both of the main characters. I will have to read some other books in the series to see how they are! I imagine I will like them, but probably not as much as this one since I loved the silent, honorable, and lonely hero, and the fiery and underappreciated heroine. less

Had more depth of character development than I expected. This landed on my keeper shelf.
