review 1: Four Solid Gold STARS!I really enjoyed reading this medieval romance. I loved the flawed hero/knight in shining armor Griffan. The smart, self-sacrificing heroine Isabel.I thought the plot and tension was done really well and I enjoyed the historical aspect of the story as well. ( I always feel better about my reading habit when I learn something new. )This book is part of a series but it doesn't end in a cliffhanger and for me, all the questions are answered so it felt like a complete story. This book is FREE on Amazon right now and from an author I really love; a no brainer read for anyone would loves historical romances.
review 2: Let me say up front, that this author is one of my favs, and in all the books I've read from her, I haven't had an issue like
... morethis before so it is NOT the norm but the exception. AND, the error could be my own understanding.Such a good story, I was lost in it until the numbers didn't add up for me, or they did, and that's even worse. When Isabel run from Dom and the other kids picking on her, she gets lost and is rescued by a 15 year old Griffin. Who tells her to remind Dom he is afraid of the dark next time he picks. That rescue/meeting sets the stage for the rest of the story and is the basis of so much.Fast forward to Dom reflecting on his hatred for Griffin, another key factor as it has driven Dom's actions. It's mentioned that he was 5 when the baby Griffin was left on the door step and he felt displaced in his father's eyes by him.Now here is where the story deflated for me, if Dom was 5 when Griffin was an infant, and Griffin was 15 when Dom was picking on Isabel, that means that a 20 year old Dom was picking on and encouraging other kids to pick on an 8 year old girl. Not to mention Griffin advised an 8 year old to remind a 20 year old he is afraid of the dark. That brought down my illusion of the book fantasy world because as much of an ass that Dom is, I can't see the whole party not noticing a 20 year old hanging with 8 year olds and picking on them. Or Griffin being the "knight" he was at the time, not marching into the party to tell on Dom or confront Dom or something besides send her back to the party. Either I got my facts wrong, which is highly possible, or it was an error. Either way, it really took away from a story that had me captivated. With that said, take away that factor and the book was another hit from one of my favs.Let me just say I have read lots of her books and that will not change based on this. less
