review 1: I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. The title is deceiving as there is no mention of cancer except at the very beginning of the book and then again at the very end. Essentially, it is a book of letters that the author wrote to a "church-friend" and the letters take the form of a memoir that touches on various poignant and touching events in the author's full life from her childhood to her life as an adult with grown children. Each letter is short and ends with a bible verse, but I wouldn't call the book preachy or religious at all as the bible quotes are of the more pithy variety and more universal in nature, at least IMO. I may have enjoyed it especially because I listened to the audio version and the reader did a really good job of conveying emotion and the ... morereserved Minnesotan quality of the author's words.
review 2: This book was recommended by a co-worker and what a thought provoking read it was! I for some reason was reminded of the widow's mite in scripture. She gave all she had but it was the pure heart that moved God. Margaret was uncomfortable with the trappings of what we would call in religion but what she could give was her gift, the gift of writing and in that she found her freedom, her miracle and ultimately God. This was a quick read because I didn't want to put it down. It touched my heart for those that hurt in their emotions and don't have a voice. A voice can be found in writing, it may bless you and others like it did for Deb and Margaret. less
