review 1: This was a dark book on Cleopatra. The most beautiful woman in history turned into a monster that craves violence and blood. It is a heavy book and took me over a week to finish I really enjoyed it but I was held up a bit about 3/4 of the way through because it seemed to slow down a bit too much. I will admit the research for this book alone must have been a daunting task. It was a pretty good book a bit unpredictable. I loved the mythology and magic that wrapped everything together. Oh it was a very satisfying experience but as I said it did drag a bit at one point.
review 2: I so, so wanted to give this five stars. As it turns out, four is being pretty kind - but I'll stick with that.As a story this holds heaps of promise. I love books set in ancient Egypt. O... morene about Cleopatra is the height of the genre. If that is the right description, but I think you know what I mean.I flew through this book. It is a good, fun and surprisingly easy read. Maybe that is just me though, and not the masses. I can certainly see why this book could elicit bad reviews.In the end, I'll simply say it is a good book, spoiled only by waaaay tooooo much weirdness... less
