review 1: This is a book you would enjoy if you're a psychology enthusiast and/or a devotee of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes works. Unfortunately, I'm at best a fan of the modernized renditions of Sherlock, a la Cumberbatch or Johnny Lee Miller (but give me credit for nixing the Iron Man version) so though I was thrilled to receive this First Reads ARC, that excitement no sot mysteriously disappeared as the analyses were lost on me.
review 2: This is an unusual book which shows you how you can learn to solve problems and become more creative by following the methods of Sherlock Holmes. The author uses passages from the famous detective's stories as examples of how to analyze a problem rationally and to deduce information from a scattering of clues. Although it is... more clear that Konnikova is a knowledgeable psychologist, she does not write in an academic style but in a very accessible one. The Sherlock Holmes examples grab your interest and you learn about thinking and problem solving as a bonus. less
