review 1: Having been delighted by my first Marie Bostwick read BETWEEN HEAVEN AND TEXAS … I read about the author and went looking for the first book in this Cobbled Quilt series. Main character Evelyn Dixon is shocked to discover that her husband is unhappy in their marriage and wanting a divorce. With her son having just gone to college … she feels even more lost. On a whim, she sets off by car from Texas heading north and finds her way to a small town in Connecticut that seems to connect with her in some way. When she sees an old empty shop … she opens a quilt shop there. How Evelyn works through her griefs, struggles to establish a new business, and finds new friendships and a new purpose for her life makes this book a good, heartwarming story. I loved the friends E... morevelyn comes to know in the book, too … and having already read the back covers of some of the books to come in this series …I felt certain I would come to know each more in future books. … Which I did …. in A THREAD OF TRUTH, A THREAD SO THIN, THREADING THE NEEDLE, and TIES THAT BIND. This is a great series I encourage you to try. The artistry and the author's understanding of quilting add much to this series of stories.
review 2: Sappy, but a good vacation read. I liked the womens' friendship aspect, and the parts about quilting, how women come together to make them, how they are a gift of love. Bostwick has some very interesting insights into human nature, like that you should enjoy the imperfections in a handmade quilt, that is what makes it perfect, and the same applies to people. There is another big part of the book that deals with breast cancer. It was a little too religious for me, but that was ok. The making a new start, being strong, being willing to change, were good messages. less
