review 1: What a fun story with wonderful illustrations! Children find the mud tacos completely silly and giggle and squirm at the mere idea of eating a mud taco! The book also has a good story of getting along with family (siblings and cousins), and being nice to one another. It's also a breath of fresh air to read a book that is encouraging kids to play outside and use their imagination in a day and age where so many kids have their own computers, video games, etc.Comment
review 2: I checked out Tacos de Lodo from the circulating Spanish collection to use a for mud-themed program for both Spanish and bilingual story times (there is also an English version called Mud Tacos). There is nothing wrong with the story per se, but every now and then I get so caught up with a t... moreheme rather than electing a book that would actually work in story time. In this case, I KNEW it might be too long, so I decided, beforehand, that I would summarize some of the pages/clip them back. The older children and parents enjoyed this story much more than the younger children, but I also had some toddler- and preschool-level books in the mix for the program, so no major harm. However, it gets a two for story time. This would be a three-star story to read to children in the younger elementary grades. It incorporates themes like getting along with others (the cousin is GRUMPY!), playing with siblings, and using one's imagination. less
