review 1: I've always wanted to try canning but I was deathly afraid of killing my family if I processed incorrectly. I'm not scared anymore and I can't wait to try the techniques in this book. If you even have a passing interest in canning, check this book out because it gives lots of practical tips on the process and work arounds so that you can skip buying specialized rigs and just use tools you probably already own.
review 2: Got this in the Kindle version from the library, in part to see if I liked using cookbooks in that format on the iPad (answer: NO). I enjoyed browsing the book, and tried a couple of jam recipes because I had the fruit on hand - apricot and strawberry-rhubarb. If I ever decide I have time to seriously start canning food, I might purchase this
... more as a traditional cookbook - the photographs are gorgeous and the book includes things like pickles and ketchup in addition to lots of jams and jellies. less
