review 1: In the book I Lived on Butterfly Hill by Marjorie Agosin, eleven-year old Celeste Marconi lives in her beloved country of Chile, but Chile has been taken over by a military, who doesn't give basic needs to everyone. Celeste’s parents are doctors and must hide to remain safe and Celeste must say good-bye. Celeste her self is taken away and is sent thousands of miles all the way to Maine. With no friends or know a word of English will she make it back to Chile? Read this emotional book to find out if she sees her home ever again.
review 2: I'm not even sure you can call this historical fiction given the made up political leaders and situations. It's a strange story that is much too long. There were parts I enjoyed, but the work felt very fragmented and the ch... morearacters did not seem authentic. I wish it had been a book and a sequel. I can't see a middle school student wanting to read 450+ page novel set in Chile during the late 1960s. less
