review 1: Locked room mystery set in a world based on Rome. It's interesting but it just fell a little short for me, I felt like the author had some good ideas but they just didn't get well enough to make this a really good read, it was a good read but I felt lacking. I liked Lucan Drakenfeld and his exploration into the mystery and the mystery of his father's death and dealing with his probably epilepsy and his relationship with his bodyguard Leana, but it didn't flow as well as it could have.
review 2: Drakenfeld is just my sort of book, a blend of crime/fantasy with a flavour of the classical world. As with Mark Charan Newton's other books, the world building is very vivid and is beautifully and intelligently written. I especially liked that the main character, Drak
... moreenfeld, wasn't perfect and had his flaws. Leana was a very strong female lead and had an interesting history. I'm looking forward to seeing where the author goes with this series. less

Very engrossing "who dunnit" novel in a fantasy setting, although it gets a bit predictable.
