review 1: Vivid and crammed with adult content, City of Ruin is both predictable and dowdy. Little intrigue exists, usurped by macho paternalistic pseudo script and about every cliche from a rated "R" vampire fantasy. The premise was promising, but failed to hold interest. To be fair, I did not read the first book in the series, but little was done to prompt me towards it as I have read other reviews which describe this book as more of a page turner than the first. With the content a neutral shade of grey, the language put me off.
review 2: Of all my works so far, not excluding the forthcoming series, this is probably my favourite. I have many problems with Nights of Villjamur - some of which I've ironed out for a forthcoming UK paperback - but I think I learned a lo... moret. I put an immense amount of stamina into this book, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to ever capture that same energy again. Which isn't to say energy equates to a good book, of course, but I'm pretty proud of this one more than the others. less
