review 1: Mark Driscoll is not Henri Nouwen. He writes boldly, bluntly, at times abrasively. The "Porn-Again Christian" is a short work dedicated to exposing the sinfulness and dangers of pornography and masturbation among men (to whom Driscoll addresses this to). It is broadly broken down into three parts: Driscoll uses Scripture to demonstrate porn's sinfulness and to bring men to repentance, a transcript of James Dobson's interview with rapist and serial killer Ted Bundy on the eve of his execution where the murderer reveals how prevalent pornography was in the formation of his fatal fantasies and crimes and a sobering explanation by Justin Holcomb of sex trafficking and forced prostitution in the world today. Much of what is written here can be found in Driscoll's book on marria... morege (co-written with his wife). For instance, Driscoll claims that a man's wife is to be the sole standard of beauty for the man (but is this found in the Bible?). He also makes the questionable claim that a spouse who does not have sex with their husband or wife is depriving them and thus sinning (although perhaps one could look for backing from 1 Cor. 7). Positively, while some Christians criticize Driscoll for discussing what sexual activities are permitted in marriage, I think Driscoll is right to do so because he acknowledges that if Christian couples do not seek advice from a pastor they will look to other sources - sources that will be more harmful. If society is asking a question, the Church needs to have a response. This might be the bucket of cold water that some men need but I would look for resources with a more pastoral touch.
review 2: This is a short read and it's free online! So even if you're not a Driscoll fan and you're a male who struggles with porn it is worth reading. Driscoll aim is for the reader to catch how serious porn is and how damaging it can be. The case can be made that he attempts to scare you out of looking at porn. If it works great because porn isn't something to be messed with. He also answers common questions and debunks common myths about porn which is very eye opening and heart breaking. I agree with what Driscoll says in the beginning of the book, that it is mainly for males. I would suggest for women reading another book or porn if you struggle or if you have a friend, husband, or family member who struggles. less
