review 1: Usually I pass up even free prequels because I don't want to possibly invest in buying the books that come after. But I'm so glad I did not let this one pass me by. It has a really awesome storyline with characters that stand out in a crowd. I love the idea that Amber is a kick butt lady whose been given a bum rap and made by special ops to go out into the regular workforce basically doing two jobs getting credit for only one and still dealing with her personal issue of becoming a vampire. Sadly she gets her butt kicked all the time, no glory for anything and some of what she does can never be told, to anyone. So at least she has "Tara" her dead twin sister to talk to whenever she needs advice. So in this book it's get the bad vamps, save the kids and it's just another day... more for vamp candidate Amber. She's a great character. On to the next book in the series...
review 2: Amber is an ex-military special ops soldier, currently working as a rookie Denver police officer. She is hiding a secret that has changed her life in ways she is not yet even aware of. This novella details her short career as a cop and explains her ongoing relationship with the colonel, Morales (police captain) and some other minor characters who make appearances throughout the series. This novella could either be read before the main books, Sleight of Hand and Hidden Trump, or after reading them. It is well written and if you haven't already read the first two books of the series, you will no doubt want to now! less
