Spell Robbers by Matthew J. Kirby

Spell Robbers by Matthew J. Kirby

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I thought it was okay. I might read the next one–it was good enough for that–but there was so much double dealing that I am now extremely confused. Who am I supposed to be rooting for? This book had so many of the characters twisting the truth to their own interests, including (but by no means limited to) Ronin, Mr. Weathersky, and every single stinkin’ Agent. Honestly, it’s hard to go through a book thinking I wish I could turist somebody!
Some of the plot seemed a little forced, and there were several things that were not cleared up (ex. Why does Ben’s mother have to take the pills?) Why did he need a Locus at the beginning and then at the end (very suddenly, in my opinion) he is able to conjure up a Level 3 twister “the height of the ferris wheel” without any help but his “anger” (which also fluctuates wildly).
All in all, I guess it wasn’t for me. It read kinda like the plotline of a video game, which might work for some people, but the action seemed at times barely strung together by the story.
